ImageWhen John and Tess first came to Cambodia they never intended to start an orphanage or look after children. However when sick and dying children were brought to them, they were moved with compassion and the love of Jesus. Sharing their home and their food, what little belongings they had, and their lives with these children, teenagers and young mothers in need.

Since 1998 there are hundreds of children whose lives have been saved through emergency intervention provided at the Sovanapoom Centre by John, Tess and the young leaders who live and work with them.  Babies whose mothers had no milk or money to feed them, children dying of starvation and disease, teenagers at risk of trafficking and adults with nowhere left to turn. Today alone there are over 100 people who received help from Sovanapoom in some form.  The Sovanapoom Centre is an oasis of life in often desperate situations.

Those who find a home with us have the opportunity to stay at the Sovanapoom Centre as they grow up and finish their education, learn a trade and gain employment.  The local Khmer culture is family and community oriented; the young people in our care will always be a part of our family no matter where they live.

To assist the students with employment opportunities we will be helping those interested to establish businesses and co-operative ventures as we work towards sustainability for both the individuals and the Sovanapoom Centre.  In this way we will continue to make a difference in the lives of those most in need.

At present we are still in need of donations as we support the children and continue the life-changing work at the Sovanapoom Centre.  If you can help with a donation or wish to volunteer your time, please see the how you can help page now.
