Vocational Training PDF Print E-mail

Image An important focus of the work at Sovanapoom is vocational training. To maximise the students opportunity for success we offer vocatoinal training for all the young people who come through our school.

The young men have been in training as apprentice builders, electrcicians and plumbers, under the guidance of John and visiting tradespeople. The young men are learning with hands-on experience as they work on the construction of our new building and other construction projects both locally and in other Cambodian locations.

A wide variety of interest areas are represented by the young women. Vocations include teachers, beauty therapists, administration assistants, seamstresses, domestic workers and cooks.

We believe that it is imperative to provide care and support not only for children, but also as the students grow up into young adults. Employment is hard to find locally so we are working towards creating employment through our own businesses.  The young men have already started using their building skills and have undertaken several local building contracts. The farm is our next project with a bakery soon to follow.  In this way the students will have jobs and the businesses will help to support the ongoing work of Sovanapoom Care.
