The Community Outreach has been a regular event since 2002.
Attendance is recorded at 1500 people up to 2800 people coming every week to learn and receive a food package. The interactive program uses easy songs and verses to pass the messages along with youth educators leading as examples.
Through this outreach many children and families have received a regular meal. It doesn't seem like a lot, but for some of these families, attending the Outreach means they will have food to put on the table that day. Pregnant women and mothers with babies receive an extra package and they are encouraged to join our early childhood program. During the outreach we are also able to identify those most in need and we offer them additional nutrition support.
We teach simple, yet powerful truths to the community from those very young to the elderly. The simple act of washing hands at critical times can reduce by up to 35% the instance of diahorrea - an easily preventable sickness that affects the under 5 years mortality rate in developing countries. Sleeping under mosquito nets can reduce the likelihood of malaria and dengue fever.
These days information is more readily available in the villages than it was when we first launched the Outreach, but we continue to promote these and other simple truths whilst maintaining our community connection. Through this program many in desperate need have come to us and we’ve been able to help them further. This is just one of the many ways that Sovanapoom Care impacts the local community.
We welcome your support and contributions towards this important community program.
